Community Justice (CJI)

AKAM’s Community Access to Justice Program focuses on the Communities impacted by incarceration.

We provide services and information to the community and participants in Three (3) Service Areas:

  • Documentation & ID – We assist those who need to obtain state identification cards, birth certificates, etc…
  • Education & Training – We conduct “Know Your Rights” Workshops for community members to help educate them on how to conduct themselves in law enforcement encounters.
  • Criminal Records Relief (Expungement, Sealing, or Other Forms of Relief).

We refer community members to Law Clinics for accompaniment services, training on the process of expungement, sealings, clemency, and/or pardon services to Adults who require legal assistance (must be 18+ Years Old).

Through our Community Justice and Access to Justice Programs, We hire members from the community as Community Navigators and train them on how to educate and provide training and workshops on “Know Your Rights.”

The framework behind the name of our organization came from a sermon titled “A Knock At Midnight” preached by the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr
