A Knock At Midnight's Mentoring Program
A Knock At Midnight provides a Mentoring Program for youth as a Violence Prevention & Intervention resource.
Our Mentoring Program focuses on establishing strong Mentor & Mentee relationships first! Following the establishment of a solid foundation of trust between Mentor & Mentee, our Mentors move on to other goals with the Youth as they become more receptive to the Mentoring Intervention.
This approach to mentoring involves youth in the decision-making process (i.e., scheduled meeting times, planned events, etc…). An emphasis is put on youth feeling supported and creating a nurturing environment for youth to take positive steps toward academic, social, and emotional growth. Lastly, our mentoring program is used as an intervention strategy to prevent youth from dropping out of high school.
The AKAM mentorship program has a parent component. The parent component is the avenue through which parents are engaged. Through this component, skill building is provided for parents. Through this component, parents are oriented to the goals of the program. They are also engaged in the process of parental skill building in the areas of financial literacy, the challenges of parenting, and the effect that traumatic experiences have on children.
